FREQUENTLY
ASKED
QUESTIONS

HOW DO I GET THERE?

The most common airport is in Denver, CO. We will pick you up and bring you to  camp. Please get a flight that arrives no later than 4:00 on Sunday, MDT and  departs any time after 8am on Saturday. If you are driving here, Sunrise probably  won’t show up on GoogleMaps! Guernsey, WY is on highway 26, and Sunrise is 6  miles northeast (just up the road from Hartville, WY). Oh, and ignore the "dead  end" sign about a mile from Sunrise....trust me, Sunrise is there!

DO I NEED TO BRING ANY TOOLS?

All tools, equipment, and PPE are provided. However, if you have that favorite  tool or pair of safety glasses that you’d rather use, you’re welcome to bring them.  Just remember that if you’re flying in, less is better!

DO I NEED TO BRING ANY MONEY?

Extra money might be desired for food/snacks while traveling to the camp and  back home again. Some campers might wish to purchase souvenirs as well.  Thanks to financial support from Harbor Freight Tools for Schools and The Daniels  Fund, all meals, snacks, drinks, and evening activities during the camp are  provided at no cost to you!

IS THERE INTERNET?

Internet and cellular service is limited primarily to the YMCA building. For the  most part, you will be “off the grid” so if you want anything like music, movies,  etc, your best bet is to download as much of it as you can before coming to the  camp.

IS THERE ELECTRICITY?

Yes, we have electricity and running water in Wyoming! Campers will be able to  wash up every night or in the morning, and will also be able to plug in any devices  that need to stay charged.

ANY WILDLIFE?

Deer will always be seen. Rattlesnakes, bullsnakes and bats are always around, as  well as a rare bear or bobcat/mountain lion sighting. For the safety of everyone  involved, campers are to NEVER walk or tour the town of Sunrise alone.

WHAT ELSE SHOULD I BRING?

Work clothes, personal hygiene & toiletries (towels will be provided), work boots  or durable tennis shoes (for work and hiking), swimming suit (or clothes you don’t  mind getting wet when floating the river), suntan lotion, mosquito repellent,  sleeping bag, favorite pillow/blanket (we have military cots set up for the  campers, and also have pillows and bedding to limit luggage on flights).

BASIC RULES AND EXPECTATIONS:

1. Do the best you can while learning as much as you can!

2. Be respectful to everyone and everything around you. We're all about  "please, thank you, sir, and ma'am"

3. Clothing should be appropriate and follow typical school dress code rules.

4. Absolutely no drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or weapons (including knives).

5. Swearing in your regular vocabulary is NOT acceptable language.

6. Bring any concerns immediately to a staff member, no matter how small!

WHO ARE THE ADULTS THAT WILL BE IN CHARGE?

TROY REICHERT: CTE teacher from Guernsey-Sunrise Public School. Teacher and  coach for 27 years in Nebraska and Wyoming. Married to wife Shawna and they  have a 24-yr old daughter, Lakin. Honestly, just google “Troy Reichert, Guernsey  WY” and you’ll get plenty of info on him!

JOHN VOIGHT: Owner of the town of Sunrise (and only resident). Rancher and  business man his whole life. Absolutely loves sharing the history of Sunrise and  educating today’s youth. You can find him with google, and he’s also got several  YouTube videos online about Sunrise.

MORGAN MARTIN: FCS teacher at Laramie High School in Wyoming.  She has been a part of the camps since their inception.

*Troy and Morgan are CPR certified, and first aid kits will be on hand*

OTHER TEACHERS: Every summer we get a variety of male and female teachers from across the nation to help out as camp counselors. These teachers are all certified and have a vast  background in skilled trades experience.
